4/13-4/19 recap

I am less than 2 weeks out from a bike race that I am both wanting to push myself to see what I’m capable of, and at the same time just go out, finish, and have fun. I’m not really competitive at heart, so we will see. Last year there were only 5 or 6 women who participated in this race, so I’ll likely be top 10 lol. The reason I love biking such long distances is because I love spending time peddling my bike through nature with no agenda. I’m almost never worried about speed- so “racing” is very new to me.

Last 2 weeks of training, and having fun doing it!!

I went to Yoga 3x last week, spent 2 days in the gym lifting, and did 2 bike rides. I would have done more casual riding during the week, but my bike was in the shop from Tuesday to Friday getting tuned up .

Friday: 35 mile loop with 2,300 feet of climbing

Sunday: 40 miles with around 2,000 feet of climbing.

I’m feeling a bit nervous for all the climbing in the race. The course is about 4,300 feet of elevation gain, mainly showing up as 3 big hills. At least the biggest climb is first, and the smallest climb is last. Two of the “humps” are quite a ways outside of town, then the last climb is on popular single track before biking the short distance back into town to the finish. I just want to consistently hydrate and eat throughout the race so I don’t completely bonk. In addition to that, I’m going to completely cut out caffeine for the next two weeks (I don’t drink much caffeine anyways) so I can use it during the middle/end of the race as needed.

Non-bike related thought: starting a new endeavor is always nerve wracking. Self doubt creeps in to tell you that you’re not good enough. But imperfect action outweighs doing nothing every time. So if there is something you’ve been wanting to do, but you’re afraid, just start. Figure out the smallest step you can do to get started, and make it happen. Fear of imperfection is the killer of great ideas.
