The older I get, the more I appreciate spring. It’s quickly turning into my favorite season. Paying attention to the new growth on the trees and bushes, and watching the progress of all the little buds, is extremely satisfying. It’s a great time to open all the windows in your house and air things out. Houses can get a little stagnant.
As for last weeks training- things are on track.
I went to three yoga classes, which is helping with recovery. I don’t usually do so much yoga, but I’m already seeing the benefits. I’m noticing improved foot strength and less lingering tightness after bike rides and days in the gym. I can see how committing to a more serious practice would be beneficial.
I only went to the gym once, which is fine. I did a heavier lifting session, mainly upper body.
As for biking, my 50-mile goal ended up being too conservative. I ended the week around 75 miles. This was broken out into two main rides, plus commuting to and from town for yoga and other errands. The first big ride of the week was on Monday. I rode around 37 miles on the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes. The ride was pretty, but so flat that I was quite bored. In addition to that, I had a pesky headwind working hard to slow me down. I’m trying not to rely on headphones when doing cardio, but I couldn’t help popping an AirPod in to get through the ride.
The second big ride of the week was much more enjoyable. We went out to Clark Fork (both times I was riding, Kyle was fishing), where I decided I needed to do some elevation training. I had a nice 7-mile warm-up before getting to Johnson Creek Road, which is a steep gravel climb. I actually biked down this road in 2022 when we did a three-day bikepacking trip around Lake Pend Oreille. As I remembered, the road was steep! I didn’t make it to the top because I was running out of daylight, but I still managed about 25 miles and 1,600 feet of climbing in the two and a half hour ride.

Unfortunately, we are having a colder, gray week, so I dropped my bike off at the shop for a quick tune-up while it rains. I’m still hoping I can hit my arbitrary goal of at least 65 miles this week. I’ll try to do two bigger rides once I get my bike back on Friday. I’d like to get some more climbing in this week.
Some meals I ate this week.

On repeat this week:

Thanks for reading, I’ll see ya next Monday!
